Stiles and Co worked cooperatively with the council and owner to achieve planning permission on a particular style of mansard roof extension which had not been proposed on this road in Hackney. Achieving planning approval meant working with acute angles to ensure the proposal was not seen from street level and to give an unbroken parapet line to the terraces, which presented its own challenges for achieving a usable space.
This design has now attracted interest from other surrounding property owners to apply for planning permission for similar proposals.
Part of this development includes a large modern extension at the lower ground floor to open out the living area. These works include lowering the basement floor level and excavating a new light well at the front of the house.
