Architect and interior designer, Will Caradoc-Hodgkins was commissioned by the Swiss client, for whom he has done 5 residential projects to date, to find an apartment in Notting Hill for their daughter who would be moving to London.

Will is a London architect and using local knowledge and contacts located this Grade 2 Listed, 2000 sq ft. apartment that was in need of complete remodeling to meet the client’s requirements of a spectacular kitchen/dining room with a large living room and two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms

As with many London homes in this area the apartment is accessed at raised ground floor level via a magnificent curved stone staircase with cast iron decorative balusters topped with a mahogany handrail. The staircase was in poor condition and was missing some parts and had been partially removed at 2nd floor level. Will managed to re-create the missing parts by taking castings from original iron balusters and commissioned a matching wreathed and ramped mahogany handrail. In addition, as part of the refurbishment he commissioned the internationally renowned Paul Cocksedge Studio to design an ethereal ceramic sculpture to fall through the complete stairwell. By directing light at the installation it acted as a central chandelier, throwing shadows around the walls. A number of the thin ceramic tiles were etched with text by Leonard Cohen, chosen by the Client’s daughter.
